Community invited to discuss the South Coolum Road link
Sunshine Coast residents will have the opportunity to learn more about the options for a new link road between South Coolum Road and Suncoast Beach Drive at a community information forum to be held on Tuesday 12 May.
The South Coolum Road Link Study, being conducted by engineering consultants MWH, aims to find solutions to improve traffic flow and road links for residents in the vicinity of Mount Coolum.
Major Projects Portfolio and local divisional Councillor Debbie Blumel said that once the link road is finished, it will help to improve connectivity for the Mount Coolum community and visitors, and that community feedback is an important part of the development process.
"The study has identified two preferred routes for the link road, which are now being further developed and assessed," Cr Blumel said.
"Option one follows an existing road reserve off Toolga Street and runs adjacent to Mount Coolum National Park.
"The second option follows the eastern edge of the floodplain, off the existing South Coolum Road, and still on the western side of Mount Coolum, but below the tree line and away from Mount Coolum National Park.
"Both options meet up with the Suncoast Beach Drive extension," Cr Blumel explained.
"These routes are much easier to explain on paper, so council invites the community to an information forum for a detailed explanation of the two preferred options.
"This forum is an opportunity for the community to ask questions, discuss any issues and provide valuable feedback to the project team," Cr Blumel said.
The information forum will run from 5.30--7.30 pm on Tuesday 12 May 2009 at Coolum State Primary School, School Rd, Coolum Beach, in the Administration Block.
