Over the next two Thursday evenings players from the Maroochy Roos Junior and Senior Clubs and their families will addressed by highly respected and in demand speakers on the topics of Sports Nutrition, and Life Skills in situations young men can be faced within today’s broader community.
With the success of the introduction of a Maroochy Roos Under 18 team into the AFL Division 1 SportsReady Cup, committees of both the Junior and Senior Clubs feel it is important to continue to develop and support the players off the field as well as on.
Often subjects such as nutrition and hydration are not given the consideration they should be amongst amateur sports people in the 15 – 25 age group.
In addition, and at the same time in their lives, young men are faced with social adversities such as bullying, alcohol and drug abuse, respect for others, and getting on the wrong side of the law.
The Clubs want to make their members aware that it only takes “one silly mistake to ruin your life”.
From 6pm on Thursday 21st July, The Maroochydore Roos AFL Junior and Senior organisations’ have joined with the Kawana Eagles Under 16 team to listen to Gary Slater, a current lecturer in the School of Health and Sports Science at the University of the Sunshine Coast and Dietician for several major sporting groups. Gary’s session will be based on a typical training week including calorie loading before training and match day , requirements post training and post match, as well as correct hydration methods. His session will be very practical and not too scientific. Parents and partners are welcome and encouraged to attend.
