Orchids... orchids... orchids.... from the weird to the wonderful.... from miniscule to magnificent..... the wonderful world of orchids is on display at the Beerwah Community Hall on Friday 26th Sept 9am to 5pm and Saturday 27th Sept 9am to 2.30pm.
You will find orchid species from all over the world as well as a range of hybrids. These hybrids are the result of orchid growers trying to improve on nature by breeding a bigger, brighter, bolder, more colourful flower. The diversity found in the orchid word will fascinate you. This stunning and spectacular annual show is hosted by the Glasshouse Country Orchid Society with displays from the 9 orchid societies of the Sunshine Coast. The star of the Spring Show is always the soft cane dendrobium.
The multiple canes of this orchid are covered from top to toe with flowers in white, soft pastel colours, through to vivid purples. Very striking!! Spring is also prime time to see Australian native orchids in full bloom. The long white/yellow spikes of king orchid (Dendrobium speciosum) and the pink rock orchid (Dendrobium kingianum) fill the hall with perfume. Meet expert orchid growers who can answer your questions. See potting demonstrations and learn about the cultural requirements for successful orchid growing and flowering. Come along and enjoy the spectacle. Stop and have a cuppa on the deck overlooking the waterlily lagoon.
We'd love to share our passion for orchids with you.
