BEYOND THE VEIL – THE INDUSTRY INJECTING MILLIONS INTO THE SUNSHINE COAST ECONOMY
There are no two words more important than “I do” and not just for their significance to the Bride and Groom. While we often see weddings as a couple celebrating one perfect day, we rarely look beyond the veil to see the economic growth and opportunities for business development that the wedding industry brings to the region.
Each year the Sunshine Coast is growing in popularity as the destination of choice for Brides and Grooms from all over Australia, and the world, all looking for the perfect location for their dream wedding. This translates into a multimillion dollar industry which isn’t just comprised of the businesses providing the big ticket services such as venues for ceremonies and receptions. It includes local businesses like florists, hairdressers, jewelers and photographers whose quality of work, ability to meet the client’s needs and make their day memorable, is equally as important as the event itself.
To ensure the local wedding industry continues to thrive, it is important that businesses involved not only remain contemporary but also look to “raise the bar” in terms of their skills, professionalism and products.
Renowned photographer, and Sunshine Coast local, Ben Connolly is the Director of Ben Connolly Creative and winner of 13 National and International Industry Awards. He is known for providing his clients with an exceptional experience and is also focused on professional development in his field and business.
Having worked in the industry since 2003 and personally trained with some of the world’s top photographers in all facets of wedding photography, Mr Connolly is committed to providing local wedding photographers with the opportunity to enhance their skills and develop their businesses to ensure that the wedding industry on the Sunshine Coast is considered “world class”.
To facilitate this, Ben is hosting a 3 day workshop from August 19-21 at Montville Country Cabins in the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland which he hopes will educate, empower and inspire fellow professionals to achieve greater success in the wedding photography marketplace by providing them with information on better business and shooting practices and enhancing the quality of the work to appeal to a greater audience, with the aim to increase the appeal of the Sunshine Coast region as an idyllic “I do” destination.
“I have been involved in the wedding industry on the Sunshine Coast for over 13 years and have seen the true craft of photography decline over time with many photographers relying on their equipment and editing software to create an image rather than capturing one and enhancing it with the tools and technology we have available to us,” Mr Connolly said.
“This workshop will to provide photographers of all skill levels detailed information on wedding specific photography combined with opportunities for putting the skills acquired into practice in live shoot scenarios as well as covering all aspects of running a successful wedding photography business from the importance of professional presentation and communication skills to utilising modern digital technology in the sales process.”
While this may seem like common sense, Mr Connolly believes it is becoming increasingly difficult to be successful in such a competitive marketplace without thinking outside the square.
“It is becoming more and more of a challenge to come up with a unique niche in this market. You can do one or all of three things: imitate, emulate or innovate and I’d like to think I am mixing a little of all of them to create my style of photography”, Mr Connolly said. “While creativity is very subjective and I don’t believe there can ever be anyone who is ‘the best’ in a creative environment, I do find myself being driven and inspired by the desire to be a mentor that other photographers look to for inspiration and guidance, as I look to the international leaders of the photography industry to learn and be inspired.”
A number of national and international sponsors will be a part of this first-of-its kind workshop including Fundy Software, TNS Connect, Graphi Studio and Ted’s Cameras in Maroochydore who will host an Hour of Power with Ben to present some special key principles exclusively to Teds Cameras customers who may be photographers of all levels who aim to turn their love of photography into a professional portrait or wedding based business. Many of the sponsors will be providing samples of the latest technology to participants.
Places at the “Stop, Breathe, Light” Workshop are limited, with Early Bird Discounts offered until July 29 2016.
