Stories of war-time nurses will be brought to life in the lead-up to Anzac Day, with authentic costumes, an animated video and drama presentations as part of a themed morning tea at CQUniversity Noosa on Monday 23 April.

Members of the public will be able to witness the launch of a short animated 'Everyday Heroes Series' documentary on Centaur shipwreck survivor Sister Ellen Savage.

There will also be a readers' theatre performance telling the story of compassionate and courageous war-time nurses.

Another presentation will focus on the hidden story of The Bluebirds - the only Australian Red Cross team of trained registered nurses sent to the Western Front in WWI.

Participants will include CQUni Nursing students and academics and residents and staff from a nearby aged care facility.

Proceeds raised through gold coin donations and the raffle (of a framed artwork still from the Ellen Savage video) will go towards the Centaur Nurses Memorial Fund.

The event will be held from 10 am to 11.30 am on 23 April at CQUni Noosa (90 Goodchap Street, Noosaville). RSVPs for catering are required by Tuesday 17 April. Contact 07 5440 7000 or register at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XZJ78MQ .

The documentary on Sister Ellen Savage was conceived by a past Centaur Memorial scholarship recipient, Nursing Professor Margaret McAllister, and Creative Industries Professor Donna Lee Brien, along with Digital Media lecturer Jim Picton.

The 'Courage to Care' readers' theatre performance will profile the experiences of Australian nurses during World War I - exploring the principles and values of the profession both then and now. The script was written by Dr Susan Davis based on historical and contemporary sources, with input from Professor Margaret McAllister, Dr Irene Rogers, Professor Donna Lee Brien, Joanne Dargusch, Wendy Flanagan, Virginia Howie and Kristy Rackham.

Dr Irene Rogers will also provide the presentation on the Bluebird Nurses, based on her doctoral research.
