Street Performers 31/10/2005
Brilliant entertainment in Noosa next Saturday (November 5th) will not be restricted to Triathletes and feats in glistening lycra. The Noosa International Street Performers Festival will be here as well, taking over Thomas Street, Noosaville between 4.00 and 9.00 pm, with pyrotechnicians, sword swallowers, jugglers, slam poets, unicyclists and hillbillies, winning hearts and laughter along the way.
Heather Williams of Council's Creative Noosa Unit is co-ordinating the Festival, with top billing given to acts like Thom Sellectomy, Sword Swallower Extraordinaire, who takes a very casual and comical approach to his swordsmanship. Heather says this personality driven show has been one of the premiere acts on the World Busker and Renaissance Festival circuits for over 15 years.
"Also taking to the stage will be Pyrotechnician Cosmic Colt, who revels in predicaments such as being restrained in a strait-jacket and set on fire along with a world famous stunt goldfish," explained Mrs Williams.
"On a lightly more intellectually note we have Performance and Slam Poet GhostBoy, the reigning Australian Performance Poetry World Cup Champion 2005 and a regular guest and performer on ABC & community radio. As the critics put it : 'GhostBoy rips through the English language with manic energy he is the anti-hero of the new spoken word generation'.
"All Star Fish is a long-time favourite Noosa group that describes itself as a family of circus freaks : David, Terry and Simon take on juggling, balloon transformations, alien visitors, terrifying fire shows, stilt walking, unicycling. You name it, they'll give it a go.
And we will also have Steve London, another popular international performer with multi talents from mime to juggling and a master of surreal effects and one-man band Bruce Smith, just back from showing the Japanese his amazing music and humour.
"Also on the programme will be Insane Flame, a troupe recently returned home from dancing up a storm on the European Summer festival circuit. They tell me they are looking forward to lighting up their insane toys on Aussie sands once more, with huge effects, firey props and magical performers," said Mrs Williams.
"To bring out the cowboy in everyone, the Hillbilly Hepkatz promise a fine selection of toe tappin', side slappin', hip swingin', cool country tunes that'll leave you smilin' till the cows come home. So park the palomino and ease on down to Thomas Street to hear the best Tex Mex, Country Swing and Cool Country Blues north of the border. "
