Gallery unveils public art works for the first time
Noosa Regional Gallery will share the diverse Sunshine Coast Council art collection from the last decade, including pieces which have never been shown before, with the community in a series of artist talks during the next week.
The Gallery's Sunshine Coast Art Collection is a public program which will host two floor talks by the well-known artists of some of the works featured in the exhibition.
Tony Albert will provide an insight into his 50perCent series with a walk and talk guided tour at 11am on Saturday 9 October. Johanna DeMaine and Peter Hudson will discuss their works in the context of collections and acquisitive art prizes at 11am on Thursday 14 October.
Peter will share his experience about his residency and practice since winning the Sunshine Coast Art Prize in 2009. Peter is well recognised on the Sunshine Coast as a skilled and accomplished artist. He is the recipient of a number of art awards, including being named a finalist in the Archibald in 2007.
Johanna will discuss her history and development as an artist and what it means to be part of the collection on exhibition. Her rich experience and superb craftsmanship brings a high level of interest as a local resident of the Sunshine Coast whose work has featured in collections around the world, including the National Gallery of Australia and the Queensland Art Gallery. The Crown Prince Frederick and Princess Mary of Denmark and H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth II also boast her work in their own collections.
The opening night of the Sunshine Coast Art Collection exhibition is from 6pm on Friday 8 October, with the collection on display until 21 November at the Noosa Regional Gallery, Riverside, Pelican Street, Tewantin.
