Got a passion for the Blues or just enjoy a great party? The showgrounds at Nambour is all set for the third annual Sunshine Coast Blues Festival to be held on the weekend of 14th to 16th September. The Sunshine Coast has a long established tradition of hosting some of the best touring Blues acts, and producing some outstanding home grown talent. The Sunshine Coast Blues Festival was established in 2005 in response to a resurgence of interest in Blues music, and in just three years has become recognised nationally and internationally as a quality event which delivers just what it promises. a festival of the Blues, for people who love the Blues.
The Sunshine Coast Blues Festival 2007 features an exciting line up of major Australian performers including Psycho Zydeco, The Chris Finnen Band and The Andrea Marr Band who are appearing exclusively at the festival along with a selection of some of the best blues acts Queensland has to offer.
Headlining acts at the festival this year include the fabulous "Psycho Zydeco", a hugely popular Australian band from Sydney who have taken their brand of Zydeco back to where it all began in Louisiana. Psycho Zydeco was formed in 1991 when accordionist Stefan Sernek and guitarist Gregg Hatton discovered the Louisiana based styles of cajun and zydeco music. Today Psycho Zydeco are amongst the world's leading Zydeco artists, regularly performing at Festivals in Europe and the USA. Their high energy combination of accordion, drums, guitars and sax fills the dance floor every time they play.
Andrea Marr from Melbourne burst on to the national Blues scene a few years ago.
In 2005 she won the coveted MBAS Blues Performer of the Year contest and represented Australia in the international Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee in January 2006. Andrea is a dynamic singer songwriter who delivers raw, soulful, high energy blues backed by her own top line band.
Chris Finnen will be coming to the Sunshine Coast from his home town of Adelaide. Renowned as one of Australia's finest Blues guitarists, Chris is also an accomplished songwriter and likes to inject plenty of humour into his original material. Chris Finnen has always loved the Blues for stories it tells about "real life".
Queensland is well represented by it's own award winning blues performers. Mojo Webb will performing once again at the festival, and one of last year's favorites, Mason Rack from the Gold Coast will also be back. Of course no Blues Festival would be complete without an appearance by Sunshine Coast legend Barry Charles.
The Blues Festival won't only be watching and enjoying high profile professional entertainers. The "Blues Club" stage will again be the place to see up and coming talent like 14 year old Lewis Elliot with his band "No Problem" mixing it with experienced players many times his age. Or you, The Jam sessions invite everyone to join in & share their talent, places are limited so register early. The Blues Club stage will also present a strong program of guitar, harmonica, singing and "History of the Blues" workshops and a series of showcase performances by invited guests. The Blues Club venue will also host a special art exhibition with a blues music theme.
The festival program will open on Friday 14th September at 6.00pm with the Sunshine Coast Blues Club "House Band". The band features members of the festival organising committee who also happen to be members of several leading local Blues bands. The program continues on Saturday with non-stop performances from 11.30am to midnight. Sunday's session opens with the now traditional Hallelujah Chorus gospel choir, and concludes at 5.00pm with crowd favorites, the "All Star Louisiana Zydeco Review", featuring the combined efforts of the Big Easy, the Chardonnay Sippers, and festival friends, all together on stage to finish the festival with a bang.
