Sunshine Coast Lifeguards get set for Twilight Challenge
Caloundra City's Lifeguards will put their skills to the test when they battle against their counterparts from Maroochy and Noosa Shire Councils in the 4th Annual Sunshine Coast Twilight Lifeguard Challenge at Mooloolaba Beach on Thursday 5 April from 5pm.
Caloundra City Mayor, Don Aldous, said the informal competition would provide some friendly rivalry between the three councils in the lead-up to the Australian Professional Ocean Lifeguard Association Championships.
"The inter-council competition helps raise the profile of our City's Lifeguards by showcasing their skills and the important role they play in keeping our beaches safe all year round," Cr Aldous said.
"The Twilight Lifeguard Challenge is a terrific opportunity for Sunshine Coast residents to see our Lifeguards in action."
The challenge, which will kick off at 5pm at Mooloolaba Beach, includes five events - a board rescue, tube rescue, a four person swim teams event, a three person board relay, and a lifeguard relay.
Division 9 Councillor, Tim Dwyer will get in on the action and take part in the six person Lifeguard Relay.
