Sunshine Coast generosity extends from Caloundra to Cunnamulla A community campaign across the Sunshine Coast to help drought-affected Western Queensland farmers feed their livestock will culminate in a weekend of country fare and entertainment at the Caloundra Power Boat Club on 26 and 27 November 2016.

The CPBC Club, which is renowned for supporting local suppliers and community groups, has been running a 'Buy a Bale' campaign with Rural Aid Australia since 24 June 2016 and raised sufficient funds to send 15 truckloads of hay and pay for the fuel. Sunshine Coast friends of the campaign are being rewarded for their support with a farmers market and raffles and free entertainment, including country music, fireworks on Pumicestone Passage and an outdoor movie, by free transport by buses or ferry to the club on Saturday 26 November.

Locals can also get up close to some of the trucks taking the hay out to Cunnamulla and St George that will be parked near the club on Saturday and Sunday morning. On Sunday, an early country start will begin with a Bush Poets BBQ Breakfast, prior to the Mayor Mark Jamieson wave off the trucks with a Police Escort at 10:30 am.

The celebrations will continue all day Sunday with free musical entertainment and free transport to the club by ferry or bus. Full details of the program can be found on the CPBC's website at http://www.caloundrapowerboat.com.au/buyabale.

'While we have had some heavy rain in recent times, drought declarations still affect much of the state and some Western Queensland areas receiving very little rain according to Mr Kevin Deguara, Operations Manager of the Caloundra Power Boat Club.

'If a farmer can't feed his stock, the farmer is forced to sell the stock– at a loss. This leaves farmers with no income which not only devastates families but also means businesses in the local areas aren't able to keep afloat,' Mr Deguara said. 'Ninety per cent of the Caloundra Power Boat Club's supplies come from local businesses so we understand the need for local business support,' he said
