the Sunshine Coast, proudly announce the 2009 Sunshine Coast World
Environment Day Festival.
Expecting to attract a crowd of more than 5000, the multi-faceted festival is one of the Coast's premier community events, with an action-packed schedule including world-class entertainment, a first-rate professional speaker circuit, designated youth participation and children's entertainment areas, a fantastic gourmet food and beverage showcase and a lively array of market, craft, community and business stalls and exhibits.
Embracing the UN designated theme 'Your Planet Needs You - Unite to Combat Climate Change', the 2009 Festival focuses on the difference each individual can make and endeavours to truly offer something for everyone.
Green Business Expo
Gain firsthand experience in the technologies behind creating a more sustainable lifestyle, from harnessing alternate energy sources, to conserving water embracing green transport and building sustainable homes. Fully developed green businesses, with a proven track record in distributing goods and services that promote environmentally sustainable living, will present alongside the latest innovators.
Speakers Forum Lecture Theatres
Hear the most important eco-issues aired by an impressive line-up of topical speakers including Sunshine Coast Regional Council expert presenters led by Mayor Bob Abbott and a host of headline guests.
Youth Events and workshops
See the next generation take charge.Linking in with the Queensland Education Sustainable Schools initiative, students will run a range of exhibits including a fabulous recycled fashion parade over two Festival stages. Children's entertainment and workshops, along with wildlife presentations, will provide an educational flavour to family activities.
Hit the dancefloor or simply stretch out on a picnic blanket to enjoy the show as a sensational selection of local performers and world music bands take to the stage to qualify an amazing festival atmosphere. The impressive line-up includes The Express, Harii Bandhu, French Butler Called Smith, Jambezi and Tijuana Cartel.
Market Stalls, Food & Beverage
Shop until you drop amid an eclectic array of market stalls as the region's cleverest craftspeople showcase products with an emphasis on local/recycled materials and once you have worked up an appetite, follow the tantalising scents to the food and beverage section where top chefs, organic farmers and a delicious selection of gourmet goodies guarantee any environmentally conscious 'gastronome' a guilt-free day of fabulous consumption.
