'All systems go' for Opposition Leader's Sunshine Coast visit
It's "all systems go" for a visit to the Sunshine Coast by high profile federal MP Malcolm Turnbull, even though he was elevated recently to Leader of the Opposition, Member for Fisher Peter Slipper said.
Mr Turnbull's visit to the Sunshine Coast in October, where he will attend three official functions, marks his first foray into Queensland since being elected Opposition Leader on September 16.
Mr Slipper said his office had been asked if the visit was still going ahead, given Mr Turnbull's election to the highest opposition position.
"It is definitely all systems go for Mr Turnbull's visit," Mr Slipper said. "Attendees at the local functions are the beneficiaries of the recent leadership change and will be the first in Queensland to hear Mr Turnbull speak in his capacity as Opposition Leader," Mr Slipper said.
While visiting the Sunshine Coast, Mr Turnbull will attend a dinner at the Innovation Centre organised by the Sunshine Coast Young LNP on October 2, a breakfast at Maleny RSL on October 3, and he will also open officially the new Evans Harch "Capital One" commercial building on Lake Kawana.
"Mr Turnbull has been extremely successful in business and is hardworking and determined - he has interesting stories to tell and it will be fascinating to hear him speak at the functions," Mr. Slipper said.
The Leader of the Opposition has a history of strong achievement and involvement in public life.
"Mr Turnbull is successful and determined and is an inspiring figure for young people," said Emma Yabsley, of the Sunshine Coast Young LNP. "It's great that he has taken the time to help launch the Sunshine Coast Young LNP."
"He has had incredible success, stemming from a desire to work hard and achieve his dreams. From being a Rhodes Scholar, his victory in the Spycatcher trial, to his many successes in Australian business, Mr Turnbull is a figure that young Australians should be proud to emulate."
The dinner provides Sunshine Coast residents with an opportunity to hear Mr Turnbull speak, with proceeds helping to support two local charities: The Pyjama Foundation and Caloundra Youth Inc.
The dinner will be held at the Innovation Centre on Thursday, October 2nd. Tickets are $120 per person and are on-sale now. Contact Emma Yabsley for tickets on 0434 354 184 or at email@example.com
Mr Turnbull will also be guest at a breakfast to be held at the Maleny RSL on October 3, from 7 -8.15am. Cost is $25 per person. RSVP to Inge 0439 989 184 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
