Noosa Heads, Tuesday, 26 February. - The delighted barking of the world's best surfing dogs as they ride to shore with their masters will herald the start of what organisers are claiming will be the biggest and best Noosa Cricks Jeep Festival of Surfing yet.
The VetshopAustralia.com.au Surfing Dog Spectacular, judged by Australia's favourite TV Vet, Dr Harry, and women's surfing legend Layne Beachley, will be a highlight of the opening day celebrations at First Point, Noosa, on Sunday afternoon, 10 March, with thousands expected to pack the beach and Festival Village for this, the Surftech 5km Battle of the Paddle race, the Crick's World Championships Celebrity Exhibition and a top class international field in the exciting Classic Malibu Tag Team challenge.
Opening day will conclude with the official opening ceremony and traditional hawaiian paddle out at sunset, followed by Band of Frequencies live on the Zinc Stage. Said festival director Phil Jarratt: "We always try to offer something for everyone on opening day, and i think this year we've achieved that and more. The entertainment is free, we've got a great surf product expo and licensed beach bar, and the thrills just keep coming until well after dark."
The week-long festival includes four international professional events, led by the prestigious Vans Duct Tape Invitational logger event, and 20 amatuer and team divisions, with more than 450 competitors from 11 countries making it the biggest surfing event in the world by competitor numbers. Legends and champions attending this year's event include seven-times world champion Layne Beachley, four times world champion Mark Richards, two-times world champions, two-times world champion Tom Carroll, world champion Rabbit Bartholomew, two-times world longboard champion Joel Tudor, world longboard champion Josh Constable, big wave heroes Ross Clarke Jones and Mark Visser and surfboard design gurus Simon Anderson and Bob McTavish.
Free Entertainment highlights at the PJ Burns Festival Village during the week include:
Big Waves, Big Hearts, Monday 11th of March from 6pm, join big wave legends Tom Carroll, Ross Clarke Jones and Mark Visser as they present their award-winning films, Storm Surfers and nightrider in a night of high emotion.
Turning Point with Rusty Miller, Tuesday 12 March from 6pm. Join legendary surfer Rusty Miller and friends for a celebrity night of film, photo, talk and music, Special set from Peter Howe and Tim Gaze.
The Heart & The Sea, introduced by Tom Wegener, live music by Zac Gunthorpe, Thursday 14th of March from 6pm. A Mellow night on the beach with acoustic music and this years coolest longboard movie.
Deus Meet the Shapers, with a stellar cast of surfboard designers led by Simon Anderson and Bob McTavish, on the beach from 4pm, Friday 15th of March, followed by killer music from The Otchkies and Pete Cullen's Saltwater Cowboys.
Presentation Party, from 4pm, Saturday 16th of March with live Music by Zac Gunthorpe, Rev Sunday and the Tim Gaze Trio, Festival after-party with Tim Gaze Trio at cafè Le Monde from 9pm.
The 22nd annual Festival of Surfing runs 7am to 5pm in the water, at either First Point Noosa or at secondary site Noosa West Beach. All entertainment and beach expo are at First Point at the PJ Burns Festival Village, open every day throughout the event, with licensed XXXX Summer Beach Bar open to the public through the sunset hours. The festival is free and family friendly.
