Demand Invokes Need for "Surviving Your Adolescents" Groups
Due to popular demand and the success of their first group, Lifeline Community Care is again offering it's "Surviving Your Adolescents" parenting group. Held at Lifeline Client Services in Maroochydore the course is aimed at parents and caregivers of over-12's who would like to know more about understanding adolescence and their role as a parent of a teenager.
During the first course, parents and carers had the opportunity to practise their skills, be encouraged by experienced facilitators, swap ideas, gain support and meet other parents. The course used a Power-point presentation and other audio-visual materials for ease in learning. All of this proved very successful in light of the fantastic feedback the counsellors received.
Facilitators of the program have been inundated with positive feedback from participants of the first course. All participants reported that they were very satisfied with the course and many noted significant positive changes in their relationship with their teens as a result of the course.
One participant claimed that her relationship with her daughter had gone from 'aggressive to being able to communicate,' she said as she spoke of her experiences since attending the course. A testament to its popularity, several participants expressed interest in doing the group again.
Another participant said, (I have noticed),"a remarkable change in myself and my daughter's attitude and responses." She added that "This program has really opened my eyes to what I was doing wrong (just following learned bad habits). The change in my child and our relationship has been positive and significant."
Designed by nationally recognised Parentshop Pty. Ltd, "Surviving Your Adolescents" is being lead by qualified counsellors. The trainers are Beth Cohen, M.S.W. and Loma Berge, Family Counsellor.
