Discover Cooran like never before at the inaugural TALL TREES Cooran Street Festival on Sunday October 11 from 9:30am to 6:30pm.
The picturesque township on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland will be a day of celebration, showcasing its new streetscape and proud sense of community.
Festival Coordinator, Ainsley Apirana says with so many new faces and families moving to Cooran, it's the perfect time to celebrate as a community.
'TALL TREES will be a coming together of all the arts and community groups - from singers to artists, young and old,' she said.
'With our new look Main Street, we are confident we can find a new sense of community as we gather together to share in each other's uniqueness and diversity'.
The town of Cooran lends itself to an event like this, with shaded parks on every side. Cooran has 5 acres of parkland to the north, a tree-lined park in the centre of town, football and cricket grounds and tall trees filling the skyline everywhere you look.
The Village Market Place will come alive with stalls of organic fruit and vegies and all manner of interesting wares from around the area. And Cooran's Display Village will showcase local businesses and community groups.
Activities on the day will include:
Noosa's own Pipe Band heralding the morning with a march through the streets of Cooran.
Local artist Madonna will present her unique street theatre; and Clown Man and Fairy Princess Kate bring their interactive clown magic, quality face painting and balloon fun to town.
The Children's Tent will also be a hive of activity for kids who would like some hands on creativity, including pottery workshops by Moriarty.
Teenagers can also get into the act at Cooran's very own Skate Park. The team from Skateside, will feature live demonstrations by experienced skateboarders, plus workshops and competitions. And in a first for Queensland, Freeline Skates bring the next generation of skating gear to town.
The children from Cooran State School have been particularly busy designing a new playground mural with local artist Tracey Mutze-Butler.
'The new playground in the main street of Cooran looks amazing. Tracey and the children have created a mural that is truly special and will be unveiled on the day,' Ainsley said.
An Art Exhibition in the Cooran Hall co-ordinated by Jason Makeig and Mia Hacker, both local Cooran artists will include at least 18 artists who live in Cooran. There will be paintings, sculpture, photography and installation art. It will be a show case for the local creative visual art talent and one of the major features of the day.
Cooran wouldn't be the same without live music, and there's plenty of it on the day.
From morning till dusk, Pioneer Park will come alive showcasing the talented musicians who live in this area. Music legend Phil Emmanuel and his band will bring the day to a close in a special sunset concert.
The famous Cooran Acoustic Group will also feature local singer songwriters performing their own material.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Bob Abbot will also be there and performing with his band on the day.
"I'm delighted to be joining the community celebrations at Cooran and I'm sure TALL TREES will be a fantastic, fun day out for locals and visitors alike.' Cr Abbot said.
'The new streetscaping looks wonderful and it's a great opportunity to bring everyone in the area together and to let others know how much it has to offer.
'Cooran is a very special town with a strong sense of community and identity and there's an amazing array of talent here.'
