The Nazis looted over 20% of western art during World War II and the effects of their looting are still evident today.  UK specialist Sauna Isaac will be visiting Noosa to give a lecture to ADFAS members on Saturday 26 August.  She will talk about the Fuhrer museum, Nazi art repositories, post war restitution and the Monuments Men, contemporary restitution issues and current international recovery efforts.  Several landmark, international cases will be discussed in detail, including Gustav Klimt’s Portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer and the stash of looted art found in Cornelius Gurlitt’s flat.

Shauna studied at the Courtauld Institute of Art and Birkbeck College, London.  She runs an art recovery company and serves on the advisory board of the European Shoah Legacy Institute.  She has given talks to the Focus-Abengoa Foundation Symposium in Seville, the Courtauld Institute, the Documentation Centre of World War ll Cultural Assets, Sotheby’s and Microsoft.  Shauna’s publications include articles for The Art Newspaper, Art & Law Magazine and Art Quarterly.   

ADFAS (Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society) Australia comprises 38 societies and is modelled on the successful UK arts appreciation organisation NADFAS.  ADFAS Noosa Inc hosts Saturday afternoon lectures on a monthly basis for its members and guests at St Mary’s Church in Tewantin to which visitors are very welcome – a $25 entry fee on the door applies.  For further information call 5448 2394.
