Maroochy's elite lifeguards take on the tarmac
Maroochy Council's elite lifeguards will be wrapping up their final training sessions tomorrow on the beach at Maroochydore before hitting the tarmac this Saturday, 11 August at the opening of the Maroochy Boulevard Interchange.
The 'Boulevard Challenge' will see Council's professional lifeguards battle it out in a 3.4 kilometre run along the west hand lane of the Maroochy Boulevard and to mark the opening of the road.
Of the first to traverse the Boulevard, the lifeguard's will compete against one another for the title of Boulevard Champion.
Chief lifeguard Heath Collie said that the recent winter cold snap wouldn't hinder any preparations for the event.
"This is a great chance for us to showcase our fitness and have some fun off the beach," said Mr Collie.
"There is nothing like a bit of competitive rivalry in the team, and I'm certain the team will be taking on this challenge with gusto."
The Boulevard Challenge will kick start the community event to mark the official opening of the Maroochy Boulevard Interchange.
