The Chatroom by Reg Cribb

Fifteen year old Carmen isn't feeling very connected to her family, to her parents. Her life is changing, things seem to be spinning out of control around her. As Carmen begins to define her individuality, she finds herself, and her voice, in an online chatroom.

Sending her parents into a panic, bringing them closer together than they have been for a long time, Carmen rebelliously develops an online friendship with an older man.

Exposing a disconnected world of people desperately trying to make contact in any way they can, The Chatroom explores the impact of our changing world on the relationships we have, and the way we connect with each other. More than just a simple comment on chat-rooms, or online relationships, the play deeply examines the pecking order of fear that surrounds us, and the way that other people interpret or judge our relationships, or the way they develop.

Reg Cribb's writing has won him the 2003 Patrick White Playwright's Award, the 2003 Queensland Premier's Literary Award, WA's Best Script 2003 award and the Premier's Award for 2003 WA Literary Awards. With highly successful Perth seasons, Reg's work has toured the entire country, and as far away as Edinburgh.
