This ephemeral public art piece in the form of a greenhouse invites the public to enter the space and interact with the work. The walls and ceiling are clad in ocean inspired images which morph into bushland shapes made from translucent recycled plastic.
The artwork comments on society’s consumption of single-use plastic and the resulting negative impact on greenhouse gas emissions. Normally plastic encases a product - here the situation is reversed, as we the consumer become encased in plastic. The house is a metaphor for households, a major contributor to greenhouse emissions, while also referencing greenhouses used for propagation.
At night from 6:30-9:30pm the walls will be projected with immersive and colourful imagery. Upon entering the greenhouse, onlookers may activate further lighting, reinforcing the message and the impact greenhouse gases have on climate change.
Each Friday evening from 6:30-9:30pm (the same time as the projections) The Green House will become an interactive playground with light and motion capture to augment the experience.
