Andrew Veivers – Thursday 19th June 2014

On the back of his recent Queensland Music Award, Andrew Veivers is touring Australia with a brand new release – Departures – compositions for solo guitar – a reflection on the people, places, and projects that have been pivotal in Veivers’ development as a musician and composer over the past 20 years.

Veivers has developed a very personal and clearly identifiable compositional style. His passion for both the classical and flamenco worlds of music, song, and dance have resulted in compositions that stylistically draw inspiration from greats as diverse as Manolo Sanlucar, Steve Reich and Manuel de Falla while retaining a clearly individual lilt. Deeply rhythmical, harmonically adventurous, and unashamedly lyrical, the architecture of Veivers’ compositions reflects his ability to seamlessly join the rigorous research of a topic with the emotive goal and direction of a lyric or melody.

Michael Fix & Nick Charles – Thursday 21st August 2014

It’s no surprise that the prestigious Black Rose Acoustic Society in Colorado USA describes Australian guitarist, Nick Charles, as “a world class stylist and composer”. His dazzling, melodic fingerpicking on 6 and 12 string guitars, stinging slide and a lifetime’s stories and songs from the musical highway has him labelled by the Melbourne Age as “Australia’s virtuoso of acoustic roots and blues”.

Michael Fix is a leading exponent of contemporary acoustic guitar and a consummate performer. – Three times Golden Guitar award winner, Fix’s entertaining and amazing fretboard wizardry has seen him earn a place amongst the world’s top acoustic guitar players, regularly touring Europe, Japan and Southeast Asia.

Fix presents performances that are entertaining and stimulating, as he moves effortlessly from sweet original tunes, fresh takes on pop standards, through to unique arrangements of orchestral classics, all delivered with a healthy dose of good-natured humour.
