The Gympie District Show always has a jam packed program of entertainment for all ages. See acts in the Main Ring, on the Pavilion stage and roaming through the crowds. Side Show Alley always has something new to see and experience.
The Gympie District Show
The Prime Beef section is always well supported with the auction commencing Thursday afternoon and classes for both Restricted and Unrestricted fed and the Led Steer competition.
The Dairy competition at the Gympie Show is always enthusiastically supported. Classes are open to Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein Friesian, Illawarra & Jersey.
The Dairy Dinner will be held on Thursday night for Exhibitors, tickets are available for purchase on the day at the grounds.
Fruit, Vegetables & Horticulture
These sections are always on the lookout by locals as the best home garden, floral arrangements and commercial exhibits are on display. Each year the stewards are impressed by the originality and quality of each section and they are always on the lookout for future green thumbs.
With over 40 spots available, this much sort after display area is popular with most show patrons. Motor Vehicles, Farm Machinery, Garages & Sheds, Water Tanks and Construction are just some of the Displays in Machinery Alley
The Pavilion is a two storey building, the top level compromises of a restaurant and displays in Schoolwork, Arts & Craft, Scrapbooking, Photography, Fancywork, Cottage Craft and Household. And a stage, trade space, cafeteria and Horticulture and Apiculture displays on the ground level.
Our Ring Events are rated as the best in Queensland and one of the three best in Australia.
This excellence is recognised throughout the country and its many outstanding organisations and has resulted in the Gympie District Show being granted the right to host the Australian Showjumping Championships in 1997 and again in 2002. The Australian Show Jumping events are the most prestigious in the country and are regularly reserved for Royal Shows or shows in major provincial cities. The Gympie District Show is the only country show to ever be honoured to host this event.
The Stud Cattle section is always well represented at the Gympie Show with numbers often breaking the 400 head mark.
The Gympie Ute Muster
Ran on the Saturday of the Show, this is a great event for both competitors and spectators alike.
The Woodchop events held on the Saturday of the Show have been a tradition for many residents. With the best Axeman competing to become the best of the best.
Including Caged Birds, Pigeons and Poultry, the Bird Pavilions are deafening throughout the three days of Show; filled with award winning birds in a variety of breeds.
Saturday morning is a day for the dogs, with a Championship and a Novelty Dog Show. The Championship Show has entries generally exceeding 400 and is a must see for all canine lovers. The Novelty Show has a variety of fun classes for everyone to enter including Biggest and Smallest classes, the Best Tail Wagger and every ones favourite, the Dog/Owner Look-a-like Competition.
Also on Saturday morning Boer Goats and Alpacas are exhibited, showcasing the variety of animals that inhabit our region. A strong competition is always on show and the public is always promised a great display.
Held in April each year, the Show Ball is one of the Premier nights in Gympie. With up to four girls fundraising for anywhere up to 8 months, the competition is well received and supported in the community.
The Show Ball will be held 17 April 2010.
