BRAND NEW CONCEPT FOR ROCKWIZ TEAM
THE QUEENSLAND COUNTRY COMFORT HOUR
The team behind the hit show Rockwiz has joined forces with Queensland Music Festival for The Queensland Country Comfort Hour, a retro-radio revival live stage show touring the state as part of the 2011 festival.
Each unique show is presented in the format of an old-fashioned variety radio show, complete with musical guests, phone-in segments, storytelling and „neo-vintage‟ radio jingles sung live by a chorus of female vocalists.
The show is hosted by Brian Nankervis, ably assisted by the diverse musical stylings of the Country Comfort Orkestra James Black, Peter Luscombe and Mark Ferrie and the heavenly harmonies of The Nymphs. Julia Zemiro stars as the leading lady in the thrilling, nightly cliff hanger radio play, a world premiere written especially for the show by Queensland legend, Hugh Lunn.
“The Queensland Country Comfort Hour radio show is based on a TV programme idea that had been kicking around the Renegade Films (producers of RocKwiz) office for a few years,” Nankervis said.
“We love radio. We love variety. We love a variety of radio shows and will celebrate the joys of life in Queensland across ALL eras and ALL communities,” he continues.
“The shows will explore ways in which Queensland has shaped us; how we draw comfort from the Sunshine State. Each performance a celebrity artist will drop in for a song and a chat along with local personalities and musicians.”
The radio revival tour visits Townsville, Caloundra, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Listeners across the state can tune into the delayed broadcast of each show on ABC Local Radio program Evenings with Steve Austin at 9.00pm.
“The radio broadcast is as much a part of the production as the live show and lets the audience tune in at home, wherever they may be, to catch every show on the tour,” Nankervis said.
QMF is also inviting Queenslanders to enter The Queensland Country Comfort Hour poetry competition. Entries based on the theme ..."WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT THE SUNSHINE STATE?" have the chance to be read by host and poet Brian Nankervis and broadcast live on ABC Local Radio.
“The prize will be statewide honor and recognition and the knowledge that the poems are bringing comfort and joy to radio listeners across Queensland.”
To complete the illusion of a retro-chic radio stage setting The Queensland Country Comfort Hour will showcase songs, stories and poems, tall tales and true ones relating generally to the state of Queensland and specifically to the towns they are performing in.
The Queensland Country Comfort Hour is presented by Queensland Music Festival, Brisbane City Council, Gold Coast City Council, Townsville City Council, The Courier-Mail and ABC Local Radio.
QMF is a state-wide celebration of musical excellence with a vision to transform lives through unforgettable musical experiences.
From 15 – 31 July, the best of local, national and international talent will perform every conceivable style of music to Queenslanders in Brisbane and in 33 regional and remote centres.
