THE TEWANTIN NEIGHBOURHOOD GROUP of the Australian Sewing Guild -- known as The Gilded *Lilies* Sewing Circle. *(Ladies industriously learning interesting exciting sewing). The next meeting is on Saturday 26th September 2009 commencing at 9.00 a.m. until 3.00 pm at the Masonic Hall, cnr of Moorindil and Toolar Streets, Tewantin. Once again we are lucky to have Carolyn as our guest teacher. This month we will learn how to sew all the wonderful stitches for Heirloom Sewing, (whip and roll, attaching entredeux to fabric, attaching lace to lace and pin tucking) please bring your Sewing Machine and lunch, morning tea is provided. The Tewantin Group meets on the last Saturday every month and has a regular program with a different topic each month. Plus an ongoing project of sewing items for charities and clothes for premature babies.
The Australian Sewing Guild was formed with the aim of ensuring that the art of sewing does not die. Its focus is mainly sewing by machine. It's stated objectives are:
* To share and further the growth of the art of sewing.
* To bring sewers together and encourage the establishment of sewing groups,
* To encourage and maintain a high standard of craftsmanship.
There is a fee to join the Australian National Sewing Guild, it is a not for profit national organization. The groups are made up of enthusiastic people, with varying skills from the novice to the specialist, neighbourhood groups meet regularly throughout the country. The Tewantin Group have a small library where members can borrow patterns, books etc.
Members of the Guild can attend any neighbourhood group, some very keen members even make a point of attending neighbourhood group meetings when they are in the vicinity and on holidays! A list of all the neighbourhood groups in Australia and their meeting date and time is published in the national newsletter.
