They're Playing Our Song opens at Noosa Arts Theatre on 20 June.  This is an absolutely fabulous show for a group to have a great night out together.
Tickets are on sale now and as with all Noosa Arts' musicals, it is likely that the season will be sold out early.  Noosa Arts Theatre is a small theatre where the audience is drawn into the action on the stage with a rare intimacy and immediacy.  Noosa Arts also goes out of its way to make its musicals a wonderful night of entertainment.
In They're Playing Our Song. America's premier funny man (Neil Simon) and the Tony Award winning composer of A Chorus Line (Marvin Hamlish) collaborated on this hit musical. It's a humorous, romantic show about a neurotic yet highly successful composer and his relationship with an aspiring, scatty, young female lyricist.  As their working relationship develops, we experience the hilarious yet touching story of how their love for each other builds.
"It is funny, full of blithe good humor, hilarious jokes and witty, pointed characterizations.... The concept of the musical is absolutely beguiling.... Simon has got himself another odd couple even odder than his first ... and is at his most sprightly and acidly comic." N.Y. Post.
Neil Simon has been showered with more Oscar and Tony nominations than any other writer.  He is also the master of the one-liner and they are brilliant in They're Playing Our Song
They're Playing our Song has a delightful musical score with featured vocals for both male and female leads together with ensemble. It is a pacy musical centering on the two lead characters - the Composer Vernon Gersh and the Lyricist - Sonia Walsk.  The 3 male and 3 female ensemble members depict fragments of the two principals' personalities.
Director, Ian Mackellar, has displayed his extraordinary talents at Noosa Arts Theatre as an actor and director.  Audiences will remember him in The Gingerbread Lady, Cabaret, and Now That's Entertainment and several One Act Plays including Twang this year. Not surprisingly for someone who started his career at 8 and had a successful career as an entertainer and host on TV programs in Perth, Ian has won awards for both his acting and directing.
Ian has put together a cast of talented actors for They're Playing Our Song.
Sonia Walsk is played by Marie Louise Carroll. It's a role that brings back happy memories. Her first professional engagement was at fifteen in A Chorus Line. She followed this up with professional roles in the Danny La Rue Show and in They're playing My Song with Jackie Weaver.  Marie also starred at several theatre restaurants in Melbourne and in pantomimes.  Since coming to Noosa in 1996 she has played the role of Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar at Caloundra and taken three leading roles with Noosa Arts productions, playing Pitti Sing in The Mikado, Carrie in Carousel and Dolly in Hello Dolly.  She played a stunning Marilyn Monroe in Now That's Entertainment.
Marie is partnered by Alan Stewart who will delight audiences with his golden voice and his comical portrayal of composer, Vernon Girsh.  Alan is fairly new to the stage but veteran stage manager, Julie Simpson, reports from rehearsals that Alan is going to wow the audiences and that in this gorgeous romantic role he is an absolute heartthrob.
The ensemble includes Leigh Leiman and Diet Simon, both new faces at Noosa Arts who bring with them an impressive record of acting overseas.  Shane Ross is a regular performer at Noosa Arts whose versatility and vitality have earned him several awards.  Gary Grant brings with him 20 years as a professional musician.  Morgen Sellen has studied and acted with the famous avant-garde Lindsay Kemp Company in both Australia and Europe and Viv Warren has performed in Romeo and Juliet and Hello Dolly at Noosa Arts.
Award winning, lighting and scenery designer, Nelson Tomlin and Director, Ian Mackellar, are creating some magical stage effects that will stun audiences.
