Tijuana Cartel and Audio Shaman will release their musical energy on Saturday the 1st of March for World Music @ the j. Tijuana Cartel express a phenomenal musical diversity by intelligently combining flamenco guitar, slide guitar, MCs, percussion and scratch DJs. Their musical energy and unrestrained delivery thrills audiences wherever they perform. Tijuana Cartel comprises of Paul George and Carey O'Sullivan as co-producers, guitarists and keyboard players, Regan Hoskins as MC, Daniel Gonzalez as percussionist and a list of guests as live feature artists.
Audio Shamans music can best be described as a lush collection of down tempo meanderings. "We love to create songs that present meetings of different cultures, exploring tunes that primarily reflect the emotional or cultural influence of where we are…"says O'Sullivan. Audio Shamans international musical experience is always sumptuous and flows like blood through the body.
Tijuana Cartels live performances are a concoction of multi-layered grooves, splashes of "Middle Eastern" vocals, lilting Moby-esque sound scapes, flamenco, slide guitar, electronic world beats and ethnic percussion. Their tunes meander their way across the bumpiest musical terrain, a rhythmic body moved with stately deliberation. "Our main aim has always been getting people to dance and lose themselves in the music", states Carey "recently we have had audiences dance at festivals like Earth Dance WA, Caloundra-, Wonderland- and Peat's Ridge Festivals". The single 'Holiday in Baghdad', has not only been heard on triple j but also provided the feature track for the Billabong surf movie "Passion Pop" resulting in some serious attention since the bands debut.
Lead Guitarist and co-writer Paul George credits the success of the band to a "ridiculous obsession with music". Their influences range from the likes of Kruder and Dorfmeister, Plump DJ's, older funk/hip hop legends Herbie Hancock, Roy Ayers, Grand Master Flash to some of the masters of Flamenco and gypsy music. "We're not about getting our egos caressed by people who come to see us play, we're about creating a vibe and atmosphere that makes it easy to lose yourself in" says Daniel Gonzalez, the bands percussionist.

Saruzu Quartet to kick off new 'World Music @ the j' series
Every first Saturday of the month will now see the J light up for a very special World Music night. The Saruzu Quartet (SARS) will kick start the new series in style with their fiery flamenco-tango-jazz performance on Saturday 02.02.08 at 8pm. For one night only they will feature Kacey Patrick of Stringmansassy as special guest vocalist.
The Saruzu Quartet's interpretations of the rich harmonies of Argentine tango, the wild improvisations of gypsy jazz combined with the fire and grace of flamenco, are simply exhilarating. Evocative of a 1920's Paris cafe scene filtered through an edgy and contemporary sensibility, The Saruzu Quartet is a celebration of the musical passions of its members. Featuring the smooth tones of ferociously cool double bass player Andrew Shaw, laid back guitar virtuoso Andrew Veivers and renowned violinist Luke Moller the Saruzu Quartet reinvents tradition through their blend of captivating rhythms and artistic flair. Simone Pope's mesmerising flamenco dancing and percussion enhance the groups' tunes to create an exhilarating performance not to be missed.
As accomplished entertainers on the Australian festival circuit, including the Adelaide Fringe Festival, the Brisbane Festival, the Noosa Longweekend, the Woodford Folk Festival and the Queensland Music Festival, The Saruzu Quartet is sure to leave their audience spellbound and clapping for more. So come down to the J for a night of highly energetic and musically diverse performances. On top of this famous VJ James Muller of Earth Based productions will create his live projections on the big screen and enlighten souls with his fantastic visuals.
The Saruzu Quartet will perform, only for this one night with Kacey Patrick of Stringmansassy, at the j in Noosa Junction on Saturday February 2nd. The bar will begin serving drinks and snacks from 7.00pm for an 8.00pm start.
Tickets for this beautiful licensed event are only $20 each or $69 for the series of 4 events or 4 tickets and are available by phoning (07) 5455 4455.
