The importance of reading is highlighted at 'toddler tales'
Maroochy Division Five Councillor Bruce Dunne will tomorrow read to local children as part of a series of activities planned by Maroochy Libraries to celebrate Australian Library and Information Week (21-26 May).
Maroochy Libraries have been successfully leading up to the nationally recognised and celebrated week with activities and events throughout the whole month of May.
The special 'toddler tales' storytelling session for children under three-years-of-age will be held on Thursday 24 May at 9.45am at Coolum Beach Library to coincide with the annual, national event.
Councillor Dunne said two books had been selected to read to approximately 20 children ranging in age from one to three years.
"As a father myself, I want to highlight how important it is to read and enjoy books and how engaging younger children in reading encourages them to start from an early age," he said.
Maroochy libraries hold more than 250 different events every year ranging from author talks to computer lessons.
Social Development Portfolio Chair Councillor Jenny McKay said libraries remain very popular in the community, with more than three-quarters-of-a-million people visiting a Maroochy library annually.
"With in excess of 60,000 registered users and more than 1.8 million loans per year, our libraries are essential community hubs and are amongst the most used and valued Maroochy Council service," she said.
"Australian Library and Information Week is a great way to highlight the free services and benefits our Maroochy Libraries provide to the community."
