2020 World Environment Day Celebrations 9th June 2007 - Twin Waters Resort
The Sunshine Coast Environment Council in conjunction with the Maroochy Shire Council is hosting Towards 2020 Climate Change Conference & Expo (World Environment Day)
For more info on the conference;
The Climate Change Expo has been planned on 5 separate lines:-
* The Exhibits
* The Forums
* The Youth Events
* The Entertainment
The exhibition is to be held in the Wandiny Room at Twin Waters Resort. All the exhibitors have proven track records in distributing goods and services that promote environmentally sustainable living. We also have a few innovators that are about to break into the market. The exhibits range from all things solar, to water tanks, cars and information on building sustainable homes.
The exhibitors have been chosen to enable the public to experience first-hand, the technologies that can be used to assist them to maintain a sustainable lifestyle.
As an added incentive for the exhibitors, we have organised a special viewing of the exhibitions by the attendees of the 2020 Climate Change Conference being run in the week prior to World Environment Day. This Climate Change Conference is being hosted by Maroochy Shire Council and intends to bring together all levels of government. The objective of this conference is to provide the attendees with a means by which they can develop their plans to limit greenhouse gas emissions.
Dr. Graeme Pearman will set the scene for the audience with his presentation on 'What the Science Is Telling Us". To introduce a positive note to the day, Prof Ian Lowe will follow with a presentation on who is doing what where……entitled "Positive Responses to Climate Change".
These sessions will then be tied in to the Peak Oil issue with a presentation by Ian Dunlop. Depending on time constraints, we are looking for industry representatives to give their success stories on how their particular industry is tackling the setting and implementation of targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The afternoon session to devoted completely to a Hypothetical along the lines of the TV show "Geoffrey Robertson's Hypotheticals". The morning's keynote speakers as well as local identities (including fearless politicians), will take to the stage to explore a hypothetical climate change scenario, which will provide a thought provoking entertainment experience.
There'll be free light bulbs (the kind we all should have), prizes donated by our 'SOLAR' Distributors, Shower Timers donated by EPA, solar illuminated house numbers will be given away through the day, and a solar powered backpack will go to one lucky winner. For the kids there will be an IGLOO for the young to explore. From an animal perspective, a Bilby will make a special appearance, which is indeed a rare opportunity and our member groups will keep us enthralled with their bats and other assorted creatures. Educational Reptile Displays will provide a breathtaking look at our reptilian friends (to very close range!) - some more venomous than others.
