Travel the world at Beerwah Library
Armchair travellers, prepare for takeoff: Journalist and travel writer Jan Smith will take you to Iran, Yemen, Istanbul and Morocco during a free talk and afternoon tea at Beerwah Library on Wednesday June 1 at 2pm.
Caloundra City Mayor, Don Aldous, said the talk will provide residents and visitors the opportunity to listen to the well-travelled writer recount experiences that have taken her around the world and back.
"These talks - organised by Beerwah Library - give locals the opportunity to meet some of our best Australian and visiting authors without leaving the coast," Cr Aldous said.
"During her far-reaching career, Sunshine Coast native Jan has worked and written for a number of papers and magazines, most notably The Courier Mail, Longreach Leader, Woman's Day, The Bulletin, Forum, Cosmopolitan, Cleo and Australian Business."
Jan has also authored An Ornament of Grace, co-authored Health for Life: Are You Allergic to the 20th Century?, and written for The Sunday Times and Pol in London, a launch point for her exploration of Europe, Israel and Johannesburg.
In the 1990s Jan interviewed Holocaust survivors for the Shoah Project, travelled to Iran, the Pyrenees, Romania - and not surprisingly - began travel writing.
With an arts degree in Islamic Studies and History from Sydney University already under her belt, Jan is now working on an Astrology Diploma and looking forward to future travels.
Jan's talk is one in a regular series of talks/afternoon teas Beerwah Library hosts on the first Wednesday of each month.
