Public consultation on Caloundra caravan park site 17 February 2006
Sunshine Coast residents are invited to have their say on the future use of Caloundra's Tripcony Hibiscus Caravan Park site at two public workshops and a community information day to be held in Caloundra City next week.
The sessions are the next stage in the joint Queensland Government and Caloundra City Council Tripcony Hibiscus Master Plan project, which is aimed at determining the best use of this significant parcel of state land.
The Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Water's South East Region Services Director, Tom Crothers, said he strongly encouraged community members to get involved in the planning process.
"The site is of interest to a range of people who have different aspirations for its future," Mr Crothers said today.
"The workshops will discuss the issues, opportunities and the constraints relevant to the site. Information from these workshops will be used to develop some draft concepts to guide future uses."
The two public workshops will be held on Wednesday 22 February in the Beausang Room, Sunshine Coast Events Centre, Minchinton Street, Caloundra. The times are 1pm to 4pm, and 5.30pm to 8.30pm. Both sessions will cover the same content and will focus on developing a shared vision for the site.
The information day will be held on Saturday 25 February at Felicity Park, outside the Caloundra Central Library, from 9.00am to 12.00pm. This will allow the community to speak to members of the project team in a relaxed and informal setting.
Member of the project's steering committee and Caloundra City Councillor, Don Smith, said the committee was dedicated to working closely with all stakeholders and the community to ensure their involvement in the master planning process.
Cr Smith said the location and the history of the Tripcony Hibiscus land gave it significant entry statement status and provided vital links for the region's Coastal Path program.
"It really is a special parcel of land for this community," Cr Smith said. "Not surprisingly, there is a huge interest in the site from the people who live, holiday and work here - they want to have a say in the future of the area."
A newsletter outlining the project and inviting residents to the workshops will be delivered to residents this week. The newsletter will also be available from Caloundra City Council Chambers.
A Consultative Reference Group has also been formed to provide a forum for community consultation and information about the future of the site.
