Tucker's on at Beerwah Library
If you think you have to travel to the Red Centre to find good bush tucker these days, then you haven't met Dale Chapman yet.
Caloundra City Mayor, Don Aldous, said the fully qualified indigenous chef will discuss her passion for preparing bush tucker at a free talk at Beerwah Library on Wednesday July 6 at 2pm.
"These talks - organised by Beerwah Library - give locals the opportunity to meet some of our best Australian and visiting speakers without having to leave the Coast," Cr Aldous said.
Dale, who has been working in the food industry for nearly 25 years, specialises in preparing foods derived from Australian native plants.
Born in the Kooma tribal lands in Dirranbandi Queensland, Dale's culinary expertise extends to French cuisine and contemporary Australian but she remains most passionate about bush tucker and is keen to impart her indigenous cooking techniques.
Dale's visit is well-timed, taking place during National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week - a week dedicated to celebrating and promoting a greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their culture.
Following the talk, Beerwah Friends of the Library will put on a free afternoon tea where residents and visitors can purchase not only bush tucker products from Dale's range - The Dilly Bag - but also bushfood plants from the Mooloolah Native Nursery.
Dale's talk is one in a regular series of talks/afternoon teas Beerwah Library hosts on the first Wednesday of each month.
