A Turtle Workshop Hosted by Coolum District Coast Care with the support of SEQ Catchments and Turtle Care
 
Have you seen a marine turtle lately?  Did you know they have both feeding and nesting sites here on the Sunshine Coast? Would you like to know more about them and how to reduce the threats facing them?
 
Coolum District Coast Care Group is hosting a turtle workshop to raise community awareness regarding the life cycle, nesting habits and threats marine turtles face both here on the Sunshine Coast. and to support the work of the "Turtle Care "Group.
We are very fortunate to have several turtle experts willing to donate their time and to share their knowledge.
 
So come along and learn about some Sunshine Coast locals that need our help.
 
Admission is free and all are welcome
 
When- The turtle workshop will be on Wednesday 1st November
Where- Lecture Theatre 3 Sunshine Coast University from 6.30pm onwards. ( turn 1st after entering Sunshine Coast University campus and head to car park 10 and follow the signs

Have you seen a marine turtle lately?  Did you know they have both feeding and nesting sites here on the Sunshine Coast? Would you like to know more about them and how to reduce the threats facing them?
 
Coolum District Coast Care Group is hosting a turtle workshop to raise community awareness regarding the life cycles, nesting habits and threats marine turtles face both here on the Sunshine Coast and further afield and to support the work of the "Turtle Care" Group. The long term goal is to form volunteer groups at all Sunshine Coast beaches, so that turtle sightings and strandings can be more efficiently handled.
 
We are very fortunate to have several guest speakers willing to donate their time and to share their knowledge and expertise. They are as follows:
 
The McLachlan family have spent the last 23 turtle seasons monitoring turtles at Deepwater National Park. Nev and his daughter, Jaylene,( marine scientist) will discuss turtle identification, life cycles, hatchlings and current research. Nev works closely with Col Limpus from EPA
 
Carolyn Robins has worked with Fisheries for 10 years and has successfully promoted initiatives to decrease turtle bycatch. She will discuss this and other threats that turtles face. Carolyn in partnership with Department of fisheries has also released an excellent educational kit for schools and groups.
 
Suzanne Aspland belongs to Turtle Care and is a founding member of a local monitoring group at Caloundra. Suzanne and will explain what her group is doing , what they are  seeing and how their monitoring activities work.
 
Emily Thomas   works at UnderWater World as Senior Aquarist. Emily is heavily involved in the rehabilitation of sick or injured animals including a large number of turtles.  Emily has successfully rehabilitated many sick and injured animals, releasing them back into the wild. 
 
Richard Coward  plays a vital role at UnderWater World as Curator of Fish.  He has a Bachelor of Science (Marine Ecology) Richard manages and oversees all facets of UnderWater World's including the animal rehabilitation functions, working with Emily to save animals lives both at UnderWater World and in the wild.  
 
Dr Che from Australian Wildlife Hospital, at Australia Zoo will also discuss turtle how they rehabilitate sick and injured turtles 
 
The turtle workshop will be held on Wednesday 1st November in Lecture Theatre 3 at University of the Sunshine Coast from 6.30pm.
