Gympie Gold Mining Museum, Woodworks Museum and the The Valley Rattler Steam train join forces to hold a special steam and machine event on 22nd – 24th July 2011.
This huge 3 day festival incorporates 3 venues demonstrating all aspects of Steam driven transport and industry.
The Ultimate Steam Festival Opening Ceremony celebrations will kick off on Friday morning at 10am at the Gympie Gold Mining & Historical Museum on Brisbane Road with Mayor Ron Dyne opening the festival.
During the festival Gympie Gold Mining & Historical Museum will have a hive of activities to see and do including exciting big boys toys days of steamy demonstrations like the steam launch on Lake Alford, scale railway, operating hot air engines, a grand parade of all mobile steam powered equipment and historic vehicles display, heritage bus rides including steam powered co-generator and factory inspections at Suncoast Gold and to top things off on Saturday night A Steam Theme Dinner & historical slides and films on the big screen to enjoy.
Another highlight will be lighting the 20,000 litre Cornish Boiler to Generate the steam to operate a 110year old Walker Winding Engine.
A small steam powered 110V DC generator will be operating and supplemented by steam roller demonstrations, portable steam engines and other mining & agricultural steam powered equipment.
Woodworks The Forestry & Timber Museum will have a full spectrum of activities to experience over the three day festival period including the blowing of the historical steam whistle, blacksmithing, traditional hand tool demos, wood carving , woodworkers, pit demo, vintage steam engine display , portable steam engines, stationary steam engines, a working display of the steam driven bush sawmill, operational drag saw, model steam toys, historical displays, chainsaw demo and wood chopping.
On Friday to kick start the steam engines off ,the Mary Valley Heritage Railway will have the Red Rocket making two special tours down the line to Amamoor departing the Old Gympie Railway station at 9.30am and 12.30pm for the afternoon run The Valley Rattler Steam Train will run two half day scenic tours on Saturday down through the beautiful Mary Valley to the small country town Amamoor, with great views, markets and with a stopover at Dagun Station on the way back for the local wine and cheese tasting .
Jump aboard the full day scenic tour on Sunday stopping over at Kandanga Station where a selection of local produce is available, a lunchtime stop at the Valleys largest town Imbil then return journey is not complete without a stop at Dagun station to savour some local wine and cheese.Experience the friendliness and hospitality of a bygone era. Throughout the festival venues you will also find a variety of great Entertainment, Children’s Activities, Historical Bus & Walking Tours, Market Stalls , Fully restored 1930’s Bus Rides and more exciting historical steamy finds.
