Forum to showcase the power of mentoring
The Sunshine Coast Youth Mentoring Network Forum will be held on Wednesday, 21 April, showcasing the benefits of mentoring and personal motivation.
Hosted by United Synergies and the Youth Mentoring Network, the event will highlight how mentoring can make a difference to the lives of young people facing challenges in their lives.
United Synergies runs the Connect2Mentoring program which connects students from local high schools with experienced and insightful mentors from the Sunshine Coast community.
Two inspirational and motivating guest speakers will share their stories of rising above the odds at the Forum.
Queensland representative sprinter Glen Gerreyn will share his story of being diagnosed with an incurable disease at the height of his athletic career and how he fought back; while Stephen Dale will discuss his fight to live after falling down the face of a cliff at 21, suffering major head, facial and spinal injuries. Both speakers were sentenced to a dependent and hopeless existence, but refused to let their challenges take control. Their stories are inspiring, motivational and transformational.
The Forum will be held at the Lake Kawana Community Centre, Sportsman Parade, Bokarina from 8.30am until 12.30pm.
Organiser United Synergies' Nikki Watkins said it would be an ideal opportunity for mentors, care givers and people who needed to motivate others to hear inspirational stories and share their experiences with other like minded individuals.
The cost is $20 which includes all workshop materials, coffee/tea and morning tea. For further information contact Nikki at: firstname.lastname@example.org; or 5442 4277.
