Settlers Park interpretive sign – appreciating our heritage

Residents are invited to join Division 8 Councillor Debbie Blumel for afternoon tea at the official unveiling of a new interpretive sign for Settlers Park on Saturday 14 May at 3pm.
This unique interpretive sign, documenting the history of the area, will be a key feature of the master plan for the park.
The sign was developed with strong community input – including contributions from the students of Pacific Paradise State School – under the watchful eye and guiding hand of designing artist, Margaret Worthington. Local historian Benny Alcorn played a major role by contributing her knowledge of local history to a timeline featured on the sign.
Settlers Park is a small park in Pacific Paradise, adjacent to the entry to Twin Waters at the corner of David Low Way and Ocean Drive.
The park is largely undeveloped and contains four heritage-listed mango trees.  The trees may be over 100 years old, planted by the first European settlers.
Council has developed the master plan to preserve the heritage of the area and mark the site as a place of significance.
Council called for residents to provide feedback on the master plan at a community day held in November 2010 where a number of excellent ideas were also generated.
Cr Blumel, Margaret Worthington and students of the Pacific Paradise School will attend Saturday’s special unveiling.
