Monday, May 8, 2006 US Navy concert band to welcome our newest citizens
The public is welcome to attend a free concert tomorrow (Tuesday May 9) when the United States Navy 7th Fleet Concert Band welcomes 52 of Australia's newest citizens.
Caloundra city Mayor Don Aldous said the free event, at the Lake Kawana Community Centre, was open to all interested people.
"As Mayor of Caloundra I'm delighted to see Council host a ceremony which will see 52 adults and children from all around the world pledge their allegiance to Australia,'' Cr Aldous said.
He said the Australian Citizenship Ceremony, at 1.30pm, would involve people from France to China, Canada and the USA, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and the Republic of South Africa, Finland and Sweden, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and New Zealand.
"It will be a great honour to welcome our newest citizens,'' Cr Aldous said.
"The ceremony will be followed at 3pm by the free concert from the United States Navy 7th Fleet Concert Band, which will add some excellent entertainment to the occasion.''
