Veggie Village calls for Whipcrackers!
If you're a retired or semi-retired tradesman, Veggie Village is offering you the chance to crack a few whips over willing volunteers… figuratively speaking.
With work about to begin in earnest on the Veggie Village Community Garden, a call is out for volunteer trades people, or 'WhipCrackers' as they will be known, to help oversee construction for Stage 1 of the Garden.
Veggie Village is a Community Garden at Di Hirst Oval, Peregian Beach. The Village will use permaculture techniques to teach people how to grow their own fruit & vegetables in individual and communal veggie patches.
So if you are a skilled builder, paver, or handyman/woman, and would like to volunteer your time to help as a Whipcracker on this dynamic community project, Veggie Village would love to hear from you!
Recycled materials, including timber, soil, galvanised iron and pavers are being stockpiled on site, donated by community Rainmakers - as Veggie Village sponsors are dubbed.
Veggie Village President, Bruce Molloy says sponsor support is most appreciated, as reusing and recycling are key permaculture principles.
"We are more than happy to give recycled materials, such as pavers from Hastings Street and soil from Peregian Springs, a new lease of life."
"Local businesses are getting right behind the project, even donating fence and container rentals. These donations are not only contributing to growing the garden but are helping form strong bonds within the community." Bruce said.
Two important Veggie Village events are scheduled for November: a working bee on Sunday 11 November at 9am, to construct the retainer wall and christen the BBQ and the all day 'Vote 1 - Paver Party' on election day Saturday 24 November.
As the garden site is across from the polling booths at Peregian Beach Kindergarten, voters are invited to help lay some pavers in the wheelchair access section of Veggie Village and join members for a sausage sizzle and chat about the project.
