May is National Domestic Violence Prevention Month and the community is encouraged to head to Alexandra Headland War Memorial at 5pm on Wednesday, May 3 for a march followed by a candlelit vigil at Mooloolaba to remember those who have been affected by domestic and family violence.
In partnership with Centacare SCOPE, council calls on residents to unite and send a clear message that domestic and family violence will not be tolerated in our community.
The march will commence from the Alexandra Headlands HMAS Brisbane Memorial and head towards the Loo with a View at Mooloolaba for a moving candle lighting ceremony to remember those who have sadly lost their lives to domestic and family violence.
The National Domestic Violence Prevention Month campaign will challenge Queenslanders to consider their attitudes towards domestic and family violence and recognise that a whole of community response is required to stop the violence.
For 24-hour, confidential, sexual assault and domestic violence information and support call 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) or SCOPE Sunshine Coast regional domestic and family violence service on 5430 9300. If you are in immediate danger please contact Police on triple zero (000)
