An immersive art and food exhibition will open at Caloundra Regional Gallery on Friday, November 15.
The Elizabeth Willing: Pith exhibition features newly commissioned work that prompts viewers to contemplate their own relationship with the food they eat, where it comes from and how their own eating habits impact on the land which produces it.
Queensland artist, Elizabeth Willing’s multi-sensory exhibition includes sculpture, collage, video, wall-paper and a live performance celebrating the produce of the region.
Now based in Brisbane, but having grown up on the Sunshine Coast, Willing said that through this exhibition, “I am trying to think about my relationship (a female body and as a child growing up on this site) to the land and the food that grows on it. This opens up a space to consider my memories and experiences exploring the land and the agriculture that covers it.”
Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the gallery was pleased to have the opportunity to showcase this Elizabeth Willing: Pith exhibition.
“Elizabeth Willing is seen as one of the country’s most exciting contemporary artists whose current practice stems from an intriguing intersection of art and food,” Cr Baberowski said.
“With people’s attitudes changing towards what they eat, where it comes from and how it is processed, in addition to the concept of the ‘slow’ movement across food, fashion and lifestyle, Willing’s work explores the deep connections between the consumption and production of food.”
The exhibition will be on display until January 12, 2020.
Free, self-guided activities will be available in the Artroom for the duration of the exhibition.
