Walk for Sophie

Community Health & Wellness Teenagers & Young Adults

NOTE: This is event has already happened. It is online for informational purposes only.
  • Date:
  • Location: Pierce Park, Maroochydore 4558 Queensland

Event starts at 10am, this is an annual event but we hold weekly free yoga, support groups and self care workshops.

Let Me Walk in Your Shoes is a foundation initiated by Amy Quattromani, Zepha Jackson and Kiah Stone in loving memory of their beautiful sister and friend Sophie Quattromani.

This organisation has been created to give people an opportunity to share their stories and the weight of their burdens by providing a safe space to talk, listen, and build relationships. Through our weekly free yoga in the park, support groups and self care workshops we are reaching out to people who might feel detached or alone, or who simply want to meet new people in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Suicide is the leading killer in Australians between 15 and 44, more than car accidents and cancer combined, yet it is still often a taboo topic, with inadequate funding and support to help those who are at risk or trying to cope with losing a loved one who has taken their own life. We want to make a difference by helping to shift the stigma and open up the conversation around suicide and mental illness.

Let Me Walk In Your Shoes is creating a movement of change for mental health. We are passionate about our mission of reducing the stigma around mental health and creating a community where all generations can come together to be inspired, learn, talk and most importantly, know that they are not alone.

WALK FOR SOPHIE: Sophie was so loved by everyone who was fortunate enough to meet her in her 21 years of life. She touched the lives of every person who met her and was an inspiration to all of us. Sophie struggled throughout her teenage years with depression and was finally diagnosed early last year with Bipolar 1. Sophie was strong and brave but it was an inner battle for her every single day. Now, Sophie is free from that battle. Her spirit will remain with us for as long as we live, and although life won't be the same without her, we will always remember how her smile lit up the darkest of nights, and how her wisdom and care for others never faltered. On this day we would like to honour her and celebrate her life and her 22nd birthday.

Our meeting point is at Pierce Park Maroochydore, (near playground/BBQs) at 10:00am. We will begin the event with an inspirational talk, followed by a moment of reflection where we will remember those lost to mental illness and honour those continuing the battle. Walk for Sophie will commence around 10:30am, where we will walk to our destination of Alexandra Headlands Hill.

This event involves bringing people together in a safe environment where conversation around mental health will be encouraged and can be openly discussed without judgment. Please join us to celebrate Sophie's life and help shed light on mental health and suicide by forming change within our community.
