Help QuIHN help some of the smallest victims of the Queensland floods
at a joint fundraising day at Cotton Tree Park on Saturday March 12.
The fundraising day will include sausage sizzle, drinks and entertainment including face painting, belly dancing, music, and raffles with great prizes donated by local businesses.
The floods that have devastated the people of Queensland have also had a terrible impact on the native animals that have been injured and displaced.
Sunshine Coast based WILVOS (Wildlife Volunteers Association Inc) has shouldered the great responsibility of providing rescue and rehabilitation for many lot of these native animals.
To help WILVOS meet the needs of local wildlife the QuIHN (Queensland Injectors Health Network) fundraising unit will be holding the WILVOS Fundraising Day at Cotton Tree Park on March 12.
QuIHN General Manager Geoff Manu said that while the fundraising unit had been established to support the work of QuIHN, staff felt that the plight of WILVOS was too great a problem to ignore.
"We are a not-for-profit company and normally would be raising money to support our own operations," Mr Manu said "but with the floods we decided that before we look after ourselves we wanted to do some good for someone else and WILVOS is a great cause."
WILVOS relies completely on its members to continue operations and has been caring for and rehabilitating Sunshine Coast native fauna for more than 20 years.
Although with the floods WILVOS Chairperson Sylvia Whiting said the group had been receiving calls from further afield. "We are one of the few wildlife groups with a 24 hour hotline so we've been getting a lot of calls from Brisbane," she said. "We even got a call from a lady in Canberra who used to live here calling for a friend in Brisbane who had a displaced echidna."
The WILVOS 24 Hotline is 5441 6200.
All profits from the fundraising event will go to WILVOS.
QuIHN would like to thank the Sunshine City Coast Council for their kind support of this event.
