For those who can't make the 'Woodford Folk Festival' and those who will still be in Woodford mood there is a the Woodford Windown in Noosa with an awesome concert'A Taste of Woodford' at The J. On Friday, January 2, Noosa Junction will come alive with an array of activities and the evening will culminate in a five-hour, non-stop celebration concert at The J. 'A taste of Woodford' will be opened by The Firetree, followed by the winning songs of three busking finalists and comedy from Alan Glover (a 12 year veteran of Woodford) garnished with a sprinkle of poetry and magic by Sean. Then get ready for a real treat to hear some of Woodford's best: Australian singer-songwriter and guitar virtuoso Jeff Lang has built a reputation for startlingly original performances, working without a set list, allowing the unique energy of each night to shape the songs. John Butler: "Seeing Jeff Lang was like being at church for three hours - a totally sacred event. He's the man as far as I'm concerned."
Mamadou Diabate was destined to play the Kora. One Grammy award nominated solo album under his belt, he just released 'Douga Mansa (King Vulture)'. His technical virtuosity and innovative approach have kept him in high demand internationally. First he will perform solo to later be joined by Bobby Singh, an outstanding Tabla wizard, for a rare performance. Bobby Singh spent much of his childhood in Mumbai studying with the great tabla master Pandit Nikhil Ghosh. Nurtured into a mature, internationally renowned tabla virtuoso, both in traditional Indian and cross-cultural genres, Bobby has played with many of the top musicians in Australia and the world.
When the three musicians first met in 2008, no one could quite predict the musical alchemy that would occur as a result. A spontaneous day of recording at Melbourne's 30 Mill Studios lead to an astonishingly beautiful and surprisingly natural recording that displays the conversational and virtuosic style that all three are renowned for. The concert will then morph into a dance party with legendary producer and DJ PQM from New York behind the decks. Everyone who has had the pleasure to hear, see and experience PQM play to a massive crowd at Good Vibrations festival this year will instantly know what an awesome upbeat set he will play. This time it will be enhanced by on the spot improvisations. This awesome blend of electronic music with sound layers of Didgeridoos, Sax and other outstanding local musicians will surely get everyone on the dance floor again.
