World music @ the j - featuring Jaleos Flamenco
On Saturday September 29, The J is hosting a night of passion and grace of flamenco music and dance. Internationally acclaimed Jaleos Flamenco are back by popular demand. They bring together the intricate rhythms, dazzling footwork and raw energy of flamenco in performances that encompasses both the ancient richness of the traditional and the virtuosity of contemporary flamenco. Principal dancer Simone Pope constantly returns to Spain to immerse herself in the latest technical and artistic directions of flamenco resulting in superb contemporary choreographies that never fail to transfix the audience with their energy and passion. After years and years of studying, performing and teaching the Spanish guitar musical director Andrew Veivers is a true master of this highly skilful style. He has appeared at theatres, galleries and folk festivals throughout Australia and Classical guitar festivals and chamber music series in the UK and The Netherlands. For a night of true Flamenco fire they bring a 10 piece ensemble to the j including dancers, guitarist, double bass and percussions.
Tickets for the night are only $20 (concessions $15) and are available at the J in Noosa Junction on (07) 5455 4455. The evening will begin with the bar opening at 7pm for an 8pm start. World Music at the j is proudly sponsored by Settlers Cove.
The j is a dynamic youth and community centre located at Noosa Junction. Owned and managed by Noosa Council, the j hosts a variety of activities including concerts, performing art events, conferences, seminars, functions and youth programs.
