Writers invited to enhance skills and success

Writers are being invited to attend the first in a series of full-day writing workshops called Writing: From A to Z. Designed by successful writers for writers of all genres and stages of development, these workshops are designed to enhance skills and success.

The first workshop will be held Saturday November 26, from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm at Beerwah Community Centre, Peachester Road, Beerwah. Cost for the day is $10 and includes Morning and Afternoon Tea.

Quills of the Hills Writing Group which meets in Beerwah and Wordweavers of the Range Writing Group which meets in Maleny are hosting the series, which is partially funded by a Caloundra City Council Community Grant. Members of the two groups saw a need to further skill development in the region rather than having writers have to travel to other areas for development workshops.

Facilitator for this inaugural workshop is Nike Bourke. Nike teaches in creative writing and cultural discipline at Queensland University of Technology. In 2000, she won the Queensland Premier's Literary Award for Best Emerging Queensland Author for her novel 'The Bone Flute' which was released by UQP in 2001.  Her first children's book, 'What the Sky Knows' was published in May 2005 and her second novel 'The True Green of Hope' was launched at the Byron Bay Writers' Festival in August this year. She will guide writers through a series of interactive exercises, discussions, and reflection.

Participants are asked to bring pen, pencil, paper and enthusiasm. Personal lunches and drinks should be brought also.

To register in advance, please call Kalar Holland at 5494 9367.
