The Morrison Government has delayed its Religious Discrimination Bill. Now LGBTIQ+ people need to be consulted about the impact of this proposed law - we must ensure that protections from discrimination for people of faith can't be used as a weapon. This new law is happening fast, and our community needs to be included.

Add your name to the petition calling for LGBTIQ+ people to be consulted on this new anti-discrimination law.

It seems the Government are recognising that the majority of Australians want to see this done right – providing a shield of protection for people of faith, without handing anyone a sword that can be used to harm others.

Allowing for more time to consult instead of rushing through the Bill is a good sign – it gives us a chance to make our concerns heard.

But while Prime Minister Scott Morrison has promised to talk to many people about the proposed laws, he hasn’t said anything about meeting with LGBTIQ+ people or women – who are at greatest risk of harm if the laws aren’t fair and balanced.

We need to keep the pressure on. Join us and Fair Agenda in calling on Scott Morrison to consult with LGBTIQ+ people and women and ensure everyone is equally protected.

We’ve been busy meeting with parliamentarians to stress the importance of getting this legislation right.

LGBTIQ+ people and women know the harms caused by facing discrimination and we stand with people of faith in calling for anti-discrimination laws which protect people from harm.

However, religious conservative groups want a license to discriminate against LGBTIQ+ people – pushing hard to retain laws that allow religious schools to exclude LGBTQ students and teachers and new laws for people to express hateful and harmful views with impunity.

Conservative religious groups might have the ear of politicians, and the ability to raise shocking amounts of money, but we know that they don’t represent the views of the majority of Australians.

We have seen time and time again the Australian community standing with LGBTIQ+ people against hate and division. The PM knows this, and that is why he has delayed introduction of the Bill, after previously saying the legislation was a top priority.

Now it’s time for Scott Morrison to listen to our concerns and bring in anti-discrimination laws that protect people of faith, women and LGBTIQ+ people equally.

Can you join me in calling on the PM to meet with LGBTIQ+ people and women?
