Local jobs in rural and regional Queensland will receive a boost thanks to the Palaszczuk Government’s new $10 million Rural Economic Development Grants Program.

Minister for Agricultural Industry Development Mark Furner said applications were now open for “shovel-ready” projects.

“The Palaszczuk Government is determined to support the agriculture supply chain and create local employment jobs,” Mr Furner said.

“A slice of the $10 million will be awarded to successful projects across regional Queensland that add value to agricultural products, help to develop new markets or partner with other businesses to expand job opportunities.

“This initiative is another election commitment delivered by the Palaszczuk Government and a clear demonstration of our commitment to agriculture and job creation in rural and regional Queensland.

“We are working in partnership with business and industry to achieve our shared goal of a strong economy and jobs growth.”

Mr Furner said round one of expressions of interest are open now.

“Grants up to $250,000 with a matching co-contribution from the successful applicants will be considered.

“Eligible projects must be ‘shovel ready’ and provide economic benefit to regional Queensland within the first 12 months following a successful application.”

“Interested applicants are encouraged to submit an expression of interest detailing the development idea/plan by 26 October 2018 to be eligible to apply for a grant,” Mr Furner said.

“The Queensland Rural Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) will review these applications and will then invite successful applicants to submit a formal application against key criteria.”

Further information on the grants and how to apply can be found at qrida.qld.gov.au or by calling 1800 623 946.
