$17,600 funding for advocacy services in Wide Bay

Published:

The Cooroy and Gympie RSL sub-branches will share more than $17,600 in funding through the Morrison Government's Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) grants program to help with advocacy services.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O'Brien announced the funding today, as part of a $4.2 million national round of the BEST program.

"I'm pleased the Cooroy Pomona RSL Sub-Branch will receive $6,048.47 through the BEST program, and the Gympie RSL Sub-Branch will receive $11,613.68," Mr O'Brien said.

"Ex-service organisations in Wide Bay play a vital role in supporting our veterans and their families, and this funding means they can have the right tools, equipment, and resources to carry out this important work."

Mr O'Brien said the grants could be used to cover costs such as salaries for trained pension advocates and administrative assistants; essential equipment and administration expenses including computer equipment; and internet access for pension and welfare work.

"I congratulate and thank these both of these valued organisations who continually support veterans and their families, and I would also like to encourage veterans who may require additional assistance to reach out to them," Mr O'Brien said.

Mr O'Brien said local ex-service organisations (ESOs) and other veteran groups that provide advocacy services were vital in ensuring our veteran community receives the support they need.

"These organisations complement the support provided by the Department of Veterans' Affairs and show just how deeply the community values those who have served our country, and how we are committed to putting veterans and their families first," Mr O'Brien said.
