Australia's military history will be remembered with a $17,720 Stronger Communities Programme grant to help develop a museum complex at Maryborough Airport.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O'Brien said the funding would help Maryborough Military Aviation Museum Complex commemorate the service of all those who served at RAAF Base Maryborough, and would form part of the Fraser Coast Military Trail.

"This project is a unique way of bringing Australia's military history to life, preserving real and poignant links to the airmen who were stationed at Maryborough and ensuring their legacy is remembered by future generations," Mr O'Brien said.

"The volunteer committee of the Maryborough Military Aviation Museum Complex has worked hard to bring this project to reality and deserve congratulations on their successful grant application.

"The museum will offer  educational programs for local students and will also become a significant tourism drawcard in the Military Trail, with economic benefit to the wider community."

The Federal Government's Stronger Communities Programme is designed to improve the resilience of communities by providing capital grants for small projects of between $5000 and $20,000. Up to $150,000 is available in each electorate per year.

The grants are available to not-for-profit organisations and local councils. Applications for the fourth round of the program have recently closed.
