A RAIL LINE into Maroochydore.

To most people it is obvious that we need a public transport system that serves the majority of Sunshine Coast residents and connects the coastal strip directly with Brisbane.

This was seen in the 1980s with the CAMCOS rail project from Beerwah to Maroochydore and onwards to the airport.  The route can be seen on most Coast street maps.

The ‘heavy rail’ QR line would give coastal strip residents a fast connection to Brisbane as well as being an “intra coast” transport system with stations being served by local buses that shuttle residents to and from the stations to connect with every train.

The QR line would serve Aura, Caloundra South and then suburbs through to the new Sunshine Coast Hospital, Kawana Central shopping centre and then more suburbs through to Maroochydore with a station in the new city centre.

This QR line would take car traffic off the Bruce Highway with fast trains to Brisbane.

The Mayor’s rail duplication to Nambour at a cost of $1.9 BILLION simply serves a few local residents and the coastal strip residents will not drive to Nambour or Woombye to get a train taking nearly 2 hours to Brisbane !

Also the Mayor’s “light rail”  or “tram”  will only benefit a few coastal residents with a shuttle initially between Kawana and Maroochydore  - imagine the congestion in Brisbane Road !!

The Mayor now says the “tram” will connect Beerwah with Maroochydore – imagine how long that journey would take by “tram”  instead of fast inter urban trains?

It is simply -  you have to provide a transport system that serves the majority of the people and provides fast access to the State capital as well as a local transport system.

Yours sincerely
