Acclaimed Artist Michael Zavros to open Noosa Open Studios 2016

"To say we are excited" says Noosa Open Studios Chair Chris Pritchard 'is definitely an understatement".  Michael Zavros is making a special visit to Noosa to open the inaugural Open Studios event on the evening of Thursday 18 August.

Michael Zavros is an internationally and nationally renowned Artist whose work is held in the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Queensland Art Gallery, Australian National Portrait Gallery and the Tasmanian Museum and Gallery.

Zavros has been the recipient of several international residencies, grants and prizes including in recent times the 2010 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and the inaugural Bulgari Art Award in 2012. He served on the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council for the Arts for four years and is currently on the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) Board. 

The National Portrait Gallery recently commissioned Zavros to do a painting of former Governor General Quentin Bryce. His previous commissions include two portraits of VC recipient Ben Roberts-Smith for the Australian War Memorial. Zavros works across painting, drawing, sculpture and film. 

This year Michael Zavros held his first solo exhibition in the US at Art Los Angeles Contemporary followed by his inclusion in the Adelaide Biennial – Magic Object at Art Gallery of South Australia. Last month QAGOMA named his self portrait Bad dad as their 2016 Foundation acquisition. Zavros works across painting, drawing, sculpture and film. 

"On Thursday Michael plans to tour some selected studios prior to viewing all the participating artists and artisans representative works and officiating at the Opening at the event's Hub at Wallace House in Noosaville" said Chris Pritchard.  The Official Opening is Invitation Only.  However ones can view all the representative works at The Hub as well as tour the 30 studios on bus tours or self drive over the 3 days of the event - Next Friday thru to Sunday - 19th to 21st August - 10am to 4pm.  Bus tour tickets $10pp per tour are available via email at or phone 0403 170 207.  Further details:
