One of Queensland's largest annual festivals the Airlie Beach Music Festival has once again created a great opportunity for an up-and-coming Sunshine Coast original band.
Backing up on the success of last year's competition which saw around 40 local bands give their best over 4 heats of band action at the Yacht Club in Mooloolaba, the competition will move to a new home in Marcoola at the Surfair Beach Hotel this year. Entries are now open for interested bands to participate and potentially win a performance spot at the Airlie Beach Festival held November 7-9 this year. With $1000.00 up for grabs, VIP fest passes and free accommodation, bands will no doubt want to give their all on stage.
Host venue manager Andrew Daly says of the upcoming comp "Surfair is well known as the launching pad for so many great Aussie Bands starting out... INXS, Midnight Oil, The Angels, Hoodoo Gurus and Powderfinger all played here, just to name a few. We are excited to see what new talent may follow in the path of these great bands when hosting the Passport to Airlie right here on Sunday arvos at the newly renovated Surfair Beach Hotel."
Last year's Sunshine Coast heat winners Los Laws went on to perform 5 shows at the northern event and have since completed two short tours of the East coast whilst also signing to Little Wing Agency, opportunities all born from the competition win.
Bands are encouraged to ENTER through the Passport to Airlie Sunshine Coast Facebook page (@passporttoairliesc) as soon as possible. Entries will close in a few weeks. Heats will be held every Sunday afternoon in September from Sep 10 with the final taking place Sunday October 08. The festival has slots for all types of bands except metal genres.
